ULM as the oldest University in Kalimantan, officially established on 21 September 1958 is committed and continues to be consistent to become a leading and competitive university in the field of IPTEKS which links professionalism with science and technology and becomes a centre of excellence in the field of superior wetland environmental studies which is realized through four milestones, namely the Integrative Maturity Stage (2010 - 2015), Transformation (2015 - 2019), Relevance and Productivity (2019 - 2023), and the World Wetland Development Center.
Thus, ULM can Organize the Tridharma of Higher Education that is equitable, quality, and relevant to the development of science and technology that focuses on the flagship programme of the wetland environment. In addition, ULM also continues to strengthen university governance based on good university governance (goodgovernance), develop institutions, improve the quality of human resources and infrastructure and provide education based on the character of waja sampai kaputing or wasaka (stay passionate and strong like steel from start to finish) and international competitiveness and organize cooperation with various domestic and foreign universities, central and regional governments, business and industry, and other stakeholders at the national and international levels.
