About Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar
"Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar (Unismuh Makassar) is an Islamic higher education institution located in Makassar, South Sulawesi. Established on 19 June 1963, it has grown into a comprehensive university advancing intellectual and social development across Eastern Indonesia. Its main campus at Jl. Sultan Alauddin No. 259 Makassar provides a modern learning environment aligned with national standards and Muhammadiyah’s enduring educational tradition.
Unismuh Makassar envisions itself as a leading, excellent, trustworthy, and independent Islamic university. This vision is realized through missions that strengthen Al-Islam Kemuhammadiyahan, enhance learning quality, advance competitive research, and support socially relevant community service. The framework guides curriculum design, quality assurance, and student development, fostering a culture of ethical leadership, intellectual rigor, and social responsibility across disciplines.
The University’s quality was nationally recognized with Institutional Accreditation “Excellent” by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) on 23 January 2024. The recognition reflects strong governance, research capacity, and graduate success. As of the 2024/2025 academic year, Unismuh Makassar offers 57 study programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, expanding to 66 in 2025/2026, which highlights its commitment to academic diversification and responsiveness to evolving disciplinary needs. Moreover, Unismuh Makassar has been listed in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2025, the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR), and the QS Asia University Rankings, marking a significant milestone in its internationalization journey.
The University’s strategic orientation is reflected in the slogan “Integrated Green Islamic Futuristic (I-GIFt)”. It represents institutional integration, environmental awareness, a distinct Islamic identity, and forward-looking innovation aligned with sustainability and digital transformation.
