Building Greener Cities: UI GreenMetric and APEKSI Join Forces for a Sustainable Indonesia
On the 26th of February, 2026, UI GreenMetric continues to strengthen its commitment to sustainable development by bringing its expertise beyond the higher education sector and into the broader field of sustainable urban development. By establishing strategic partnerships with reputable organizations such as APEKSI (Association of Indonesian Municipal Administrations), UI GreenMetric aims to expand the systemic impact of its sustainable city ranking and promote greener growth across the Indonesian archipelago. This desire for collaboration stems from UI GreenMetric's mission to share its specialized services and assessment tools with APEKSI members, enabling the effective spread of awareness about sustainable development throughout the country. By integrating the UI GreenMetric methodology into municipal structures, the partnership aims to offer cities a clear, data-driven, and sustainable path to development, ensuring that environmental responsibility becomes a cornerstone of local governance. For context, APEKSI is an influential group comprising 98 city administrations across Indonesia. The association encourages its members to collaborate in various fields, including finance, policy, and sustainable development. The association promotes several key areas in relation to the latter, such as achieving sustainable development goals, improving environmental quality, increasing climate change resilience, and developing environmentally friendly industries. On the other hand, the UI GreenMetric sustainable cities ranking is a reputable and reliable partner for the 71 cities and counties that participated in the 2025 ranking. UI GreenMetric assesses participants' sustainability based on six comprehensive indicators: land use and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water management, accessibility and mobility, and governance. Through these indicators, UI GreenMetric continues to promote sustainable practices at both the municipal and regional levels. The strategic discussion between UI GreenMetric and APEKSI took place at Rasuna Office Park III in South Jakarta. UI GreenMetric was represented by Chairperson Dr. Vishnu Juwono, S.E., M.I.A., Ph.D.; Rahmi, S.Hum., M.Sc., Ph.D., Manager of Operations, Data, and Service Development; Sabrina Hikmah Ramadianti, S.Si., Program, Partnership, and Communications Manager; and Riska Putri Hariyadi, S.IP., M.Si., Communications Coordinator. During the session, they met with Alwis Rustam, the Executive Director of APEKSI, to align their shared goals. This meeting marks an important milestone in ensuring sustainable development throughout Indonesia. By combining UI GreenMetric's rigorous methodology based on six indicators with APEKSI's extensive network of 98 city governments, this collaboration creates a powerful synergy for the nation's progress. As both organizations grow, this partnership has the potential to transform municipal governance by providing a clear, data-driven roadmap for environmental quality, climate resilience, and green industry development. Through these joint efforts, UI GreenMetric and APEKSI are ensuring that the future of Indonesian cities will be built on measurable and effective sustainability.
