UI GreenMetric Conducted Sustainable City Rankings Workshop in Campos do Jordão to Strengthen Municipal Sustainability Assessment in Brazil
Campos do Jordão, 17 June 2026 – As part of its commitment to advancing survival and sustainability beyond higher education institutions, UI GreenMetric conducted a specialized workshop on the UI GreenMetric Sustainable City Rankings in Campos do Jordão, São Paulo, Brazil. This event marked a crucial step in expanding the platform’s global mission, introducing a framework originally developed in Indonesia to help Brazilian municipalities navigate and accelerate their urban transformation.
The presence of UI GreenMetric in Brazil addresses an urgent need for standardized, credible benchmarks at the municipal level. While many local governments have made policy commitments toward climate action, there remains a critical gap in measuring actual progress. Originating from Indonesia since 2022, the UI GreenMetric Sustainable City Rankings expand its expertise and systems globally. For local towns and cities, participating in this ranking provides a strategic roadmap: it allows them to objectively evaluate their infrastructure, waste management, and energy efficiency, while benchmarking their progress against international standards to secure long-term urban resilience.
The workshop focused specifically on expanding regional frameworks and refining data parameters for the UI GreenMetric Sustainable City Rankings Brazil 2026. By bringing together representatives from participating municipalities and sustainability experts, the event encouraged discussions on localized urban challenges. This ensures that the assessment indicators are not just rigid metrics, but are carefully tailored to reflect the unique regional conditions, governance structures, and environmental priorities of Brazilian cities.
Through this empirical, data-driven approach, the initiative aims to provide a transparent and systematic framework that moves local governments past mere rhetoric toward measurable urban accountability.

Dr. Vishnu Juwono, S.E., M.I.A., Chairperson of UI GreenMetric, shared the platform's foundational vision, highlighting how collaborative benchmarking can accelerate sustainable urban transformation. He emphasized that credible data and standardized indicators are essential tools for municipalities seeking to improve survival rates against climate vulnerabilities and contribute meaningfully to the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Prof. Patricia Iglecias, Chief Sustainability Officer of the University of São Paulo (USP), served as a keynote speaker at the workshop.
