On June 5, 2026, UI GreenMetric successfully organized its 16th Regional Information Session in collaboration with Bukhara State University. The session brought together representatives of higher education institutions across Uzbekistan to discuss sustainability initiatives, international collaboration, and opportunities for engagement within the UI GreenMetric network. Conducted in the Uzbek language, the event provided an accessible platform for participants to explore strategies for advancing sustainability in higher education while strengthening regional and global partnerships.

The session commenced with opening remarks delivered by Dr. Vishnu Juwono, S.E., M.I.A., Chairperson of UI GreenMetric, and Prof. Khamidov Obidjon Khafizovich, Rector of Bukhara State University. In their remarks, both speakers highlighted the increasingly important role of universities in addressing sustainability challenges and emphasized the value of international cooperation in accelerating sustainable development across higher education institutions. They also underscored the importance of knowledge exchange and institutional collaboration in supporting universities’ sustainability journeys.

The event was moderated by Sharifa Usmonova, M.A., Leading Specialist at the Center of Excellence in Science and Education of Bukhara State University, who guided participants throughout the program and facilitated engagement among university representatives from across Uzbekistan.

The main presentation was delivered by Feruz Yuldashev, Ph.D., Chief Specialist at the Knowledge and Skills Assessment Sector of Bukhara State University. His presentation highlighted the importance of sustainability initiatives within higher education and explored how universities can integrate sustainable development principles into their governance structures, academic activities, and campus operations. He also shared perspectives on the growing role of higher education institutions in fostering environmental responsibility, innovation, and community engagement within the Uzbek context.

The QnA session was led by Rahmi, S.Hum., M.Sc., Ph.D., Manager of Operations, Data, and Service Development of UI GreenMetric. Rahmi introduced participants to the UI GreenMetric framework and provided a comprehensive overview of the opportunities available through participation in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings network. The presentation covered sustainability assessment indicators, reporting mechanisms, and recent developments within the ranking system, while also highlighting best practices in sustainable campus management, governance, and performance measurement.

During the interactive discussion session, participants explored various topics related to sustainability implementation, institutional readiness, and participation in international sustainability initiatives. Questions focused on data collection processes, sustainability reporting, collaboration opportunities among universities, and strategies for improving sustainability performance through integrated institutional approaches. The discussion emphasized the importance of transparent data management, stakeholder engagement, and continuous improvement in advancing sustainability objectives.

The 16th Regional Information Session reflects UI GreenMetric’s continued commitment to strengthening sustainability awareness and institutional capacity among universities worldwide. Through its collaboration with Bukhara State University and the delivery of the session in Uzbek, UI GreenMetric continues to expand its outreach and foster meaningful engagement with higher education institutions across Central Asia. The session provided participants with valuable insights into sustainable campus development, international collaboration opportunities, participation in the UI GreenMetric network, and emerging sustainability practices that support the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
