UI GreenMetric Hosted by Universidade Federal Fluminense to Exchange Best Practices on Campus Sustainability.
18 June 2026 – In a demonstration of its commitment to global sustainability efforts, UI GreenMetric paid an official visit to the Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF) to further strengthen international sustainability collaboration. This visit is part of UI GreenMetric’s ongoing efforts to enhance sustainability initiatives across higher education institutions through the Sustainable University Rankings framework.
The visit served as a platform for the exchange of knowledge and best practices in university sustainability, bringing together institutional leaders, managers, researchers, and project coordinators for a day of presentations, discussions, and technical visits. Through this collaborative program, both institutions reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing sustainable development in higher education by promoting innovation, strengthening institutional governance, and encouraging the implementation of sustainability initiatives across university campuses.
The delegation of UI GreenMetric was led by Vishnu Juwono, S.E., M.I.A., Ph.D., Chairperson of UI GreenMetric, and Dr. Abellia Anggi Wardani, S.Hum., M.A., Vice-Chairperson of UI GreenMetric, while the delegation of Universidade Federal Fluminense was led by Dr. Graciella Faico Ferreira alongside managers, researchers, and project coordinators from the university. UI GreenMetric gave a special thanks to Dr. Graciella for providing UI GreenMetric the opportunity for this fruitful visit.
The meeting was officially opened by Daniela Freitas, Superintendent of the Euclides da Cunha Foundation (FEC), who emphasized the Foundation’s commitment to promoting sustainable development, innovation, and positive social impact through collaborative initiatives within the university. Throughout the program, professors and representatives from various departments at Universidade Federal Fluminense presented a wide range of projects aligned with the assessment criteria of the UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings. These presentations covered key sustainability indicators, including setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water resources, transportation, education, and institutional governance.
Representing the Euclides da Cunha Foundation (FEC), Flora Terra, Innovation Advisor, presented the university's experiences in solid waste management, an initiative coordinated by the Foundation in collaboration with multiple sectors across the institution. During her presentation, she also shared insights and lessons learned from her participation in COP30, highlighting the importance of integrating sustainability, institutional management, and innovation to address contemporary environmental and social challenges.
As part of the visit, the UI GreenMetric delegation participated in technical tours of several strategic facilities at Universidade Federal Fluminense, including the House of Sustainability, research laboratories, and the Center for Studies in Biomass and Water Management (NAB). These visits provided firsthand insight into the university's sustainability initiatives across teaching, research, community extension, and institutional development, while also facilitating meaningful exchanges of ideas and experiences that support continuous improvement in sustainable campus management.
The visit concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening international collaboration in sustainability among higher education institutions. Through dialogues and exchanges such as this, both UI GreenMetric and Universidade Federal Fluminense continue to contribute to the advancement of sustainable universities and the development of innovative solutions that generate positive impacts for both the academic community and society.
