JAKARTA, 18 June 2026 – UI GreenMetric successfully organized its 22nd Regional Information Session on Thursday, 18 June 2026, in collaboration with Sunway University as Sunway is the national coordinator for UI GreenMetric in Malaysia. Conducted virtually, the event brought together representatives from higher education institutions across Malaysia to explore strategies for advancing sustainable campus development through governance, digitalization, and integrated institutional performance.

The session commenced with opening remarks from Dr. Vishnu Juwono, S.E., M.I.A., Chairperson of UI GreenMetric, and Prof. Dr. Abhi Veerakumarasivam, Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Sunway University. Both speakers emphasized the growing importance of sustainability within higher education and highlighted the critical role universities play in driving environmental stewardship, innovation, and societal transformation. They also underscored the need for stronger collaboration among institutions to accelerate progress toward sustainability goals at both national and global levels.

The event was moderated by Khalil Munawar Makhdum Munawar, M.Sc., Manager of Ranking, Impact and Analytics at Sunway University, who guided participants through the program and facilitated engagement among university representatives throughout the session.

The first presentation was delivered by Sabrina Hikmah Ramadianti, S.Si., Manager of Program, Partnerships, and Communications at UI GreenMetric. She introduced participants to the principles and objectives of the UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings, highlighting how sustainability assessment frameworks can support institutional transformation. Sabrina emphasized the importance of governance, stakeholder engagement, and integrated sustainability planning in creating environmentally responsible and socially impactful campuses. She also shared insights into best practices and experiences from universities that have successfully incorporated sustainability into their strategic priorities and operational activities.

The QnA session was led by Dr. Jauzak Hussaini W., S.Kom., M.T., Data and Research Coordinator at UI GreenMetric. Participants gained valuable insights into data collection processes, sustainability indicators, reporting mechanisms, and performance measurement approaches. Dr. Jauzak also provided practical guidance on participation procedures and strategies for strengthening institutional sustainability performance through effective data management and evidence-based decision-making.

The discussion session generated active engagement from the participants, who raised questions regarding sustainability implementation, digital reporting systems, and the evolving requirements of the rankings. The exchange highlighted the importance of accurate data management, institutional commitment, and cross-sector collaboration in supporting long-term sustainability objectives. Participants also shared experiences and challenges from the Malaysian higher education context, creating opportunities for mutual learning and knowledge exchange.

The 22nd Regional Information Session reflects UI GreenMetric’s continued commitment to strengthening sustainability awareness and institutional capacity among universities worldwide. Through its collaboration with Sunway University, the session provided Malaysian higher education institutions with a valuable platform to learn about sustainable campus governance, digital monitoring, integrated performance management, and the latest developments in the 2026 UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings methodology. By fostering dialogue and collaboration, the event further supports universities in their efforts to contribute meaningfully to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UI GreenMetric looks forward towards further collaboration with other universities from more universities globally to push for a more sustainable future.
