UI GreenMetric 2026: Digital Transformation and Governance Strengthen Global Campus Sustainability Standards

JAKARTA, February 19, 2026 – UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings has officially launched its series of 2026 Regional Information Sessions, running from February 19 to 27, 2026. This session marks a crucial momentum for higher education institutions worldwide to adapt to changes in assessment substance and a shift toward a more credible data reporting timeline.

As a global sustainability initiative pioneered by Indonesia, UI GreenMetric has positioned itself as a primary catalyst for university transformation on the global stage. More than just a ranking system, this movement places universities as leading actors in driving real behavioral change for the academic community and society at large. Through its established standards, UI GreenMetric supports higher education institutions in integrating green values into campus culture, research, and community service.

This strategic step follows the massive success of 2025, where UI GreenMetric engaged 1,745 universities from 105 countries. High global enthusiasm was also reflected in last year’s information sessions, which were attended by 1,150 universities. This year, UI GreenMetric projects significant growth, targeting the participation of 1,500 to 2,000 university representatives from Indonesia, the UK, Europe, America, Asia, Australia, and Africa during the 2026 regional information sessions.

Refining the Timeline: February to June 2026

A key point of this year’s transformation is the change in the data collection schedule. The system will officially open on February 26, 2026, and close on June 30, 2026. This shift in duration is designed to provide universities with the space to conduct a more comprehensive data review.

The Chairperson of UI GreenMetric, Dr. Vishnu Juwono, stated in his opening remarks:

"We are reopening the Regional Information Sessions for both new and returning universities to better understand this year's updated questionnaire substance and the timeline changes. These adjustments aim to make the data collection and review process more comprehensive and credible, making it easier for participants to showcase their best performance".

Evolving Infrastructure: Transition to uigreenmetric.com

As part of its digital transformation and to better serve its expanding global network, UI GreenMetric has transitioned its primary digital hub from greenmetric.ui.ac.id to uigreenmetric.com. This migration reflects the initiative's growth from a university-based project into a broad, independent global sustainability movement. The new domain provides a more accessible and streamlined platform for the thousands of international participants who rely on the system for data submission and benchmarking.

Evolution of Criteria: Governance & Digitalization

During the information session led by the Vice-Chair of UI GreenMetric, Dr. Abellia Anggi Wardani, details were shared regarding the addition of new categories that make the assessment more holistic.

"The addition of the Governance and Digitalization categories completes the previous six categories: Setting and Infrastructure, Energy and Climate Change, Waste, Water, Transportation, and Education and Research". With a total of seven categories, UI GreenMetric now offers an approach covering operations, community engagement, and research. "Digitalization and governance are significant as both are foundations for resource efficiency and transparency in sustainability policies in the modern era," explained Dr. Abellia.

Enthusiasm Toward New Records

Optimism for this year’s information sessions is bolstered by the attendance of approximately 350 university representatives from Indonesia alone on the first day of the launch. Through this regional session series, participants will receive:

• 2026 Priority Updates: Understanding the primary focus of this year's rankings.

• Methodology Breakdown: In-depth explanations of the latest indicators and scoring system, including the introduction of Governance and Digitalization.

• Institutional Strategy: Direct consultation on how to strengthen campus sustainability performance.
