UI GreenMetric Visits the Vocational Education Program of Universitas Indonesia to Strengthen Campus Sustainability Collaboration
In a continued effort to strengthen interfaculty collaboration on sustainability, an official visit was conducted to the Vocational Education Program of Universitas Indonesia. The delegation from UI GreenMetric World University Rankings was represented by Dr. Vishnu Juwono, S.E., M.I.A., Chairperson of UI GreenMetric; Dr. Abellia Anggi Wardani, S.Hum., M.A., Vice Chairperson of UI GreenMetric; Sabrina Hikmah Ramadianti, S.Si., as Program, Partnership, and Communications Manager; and Riska Putri Hariyadi, S.IP., M.Si., as Communications Coordinator. The meeting took place in the program’s meeting room on Wednesday, 18 February 2026.
The Vocational Education Program was represented by the leadership and management of the Facilities and Infrastructure Division, namely Dr. Safrin Arifin, SKM., SSt., M.Sc. (Director); Dr. Badrul Munir, ST., M.Eng.Sc. (Vice Director for Education, Research, and Student Affairs); Titin Fachriah Nur Anwar, S.E., M.M. (Vice Director for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration); and Sancoko, S.Sos., M.E., CertDA (Manager of Infrastructure and Facilities).
The Vocational Education Program of Universitas Indonesia has been an active contributor to campus sustainability through several large-scale and structural initiatives. First, the program has invested in renewable energy generation by installing an on-grid solar power plant (PLTS) with a capacity of 25.8 kWp on the auditorium rooftop, as well as a 4.4 kWp wind power plant, collectively producing more than 55,000 kWh of clean electricity annually. Second, it has implemented a green and smart building system covering more than 95 percent of its facilities, incorporating large glass windows for natural lighting, natural ventilation, energy-efficient LED systems, water-saving devices, rainwater reuse, and expanded green spaces. Third, the program runs a comprehensive waste reduction and circular economy strategy, including recycling plastic bottles into plant pots and construction blocks, processing organic waste into eco-enzymes and compost, reducing paper consumption, and providing dedicated recycling drop boxes and vending machines. Finally, it promotes low-carbon transportation through the use of electric bicycles, motorcycles, and cars, supported by institutional policies and the provision of emission-free vehicles to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. These efforts have contributed to the program achieving first place in the 2025 UI GreenMetric faculty rankings.
These achievements demonstrate that the Vocational Education Program is a key partner in advancing a more sustainable campus environment. At the same time, UI GreenMetric plays an important complementary role by providing benchmarks and indicators that guide continuous improvement in sustainability performance. Through its ranking system, UI GreenMetric currently evaluates 1,745 institutions across 105 countries, as well as 71 districts and cities in Indonesia, using seven indicators to assess organizational commitments to sustainable development.
The visit reaffirmed the shared commitment of both parties to strengthening collaboration and expanding sustainability initiatives across the university. Closer cooperation between faculties and UI GreenMetric is essential to fostering greater awareness, encouraging innovation, and accelerating the implementation of sustainable practices throughout Universitas Indonesia.
