UI GreenMetric Encourages Sustainable Campus Transformation at the 2026 LLDIKTI Region VIII Regional Working Meeting
BALI, 21 May 2026 – UI GreenMetric participated in the Regional Working Meeting (Rakerwil) of Private Higher Education Governing Boards and Leaders organized by Lembaga Layanan Pendidikan Tinggi Wilayah (LLDIKTI) Region VIII. The event was held at the Widya Sabha Uttama Auditorium, 4th Floor Rectorate Building of Warmadewa University, bringing together higher education stakeholders to strengthen institutional governance, improve higher education quality, and accelerate collaboration amid the ongoing transformation of Indonesia’s education sector.
Carrying the theme “Accelerating Quality and Accessibility: Harmonizing Higher Education Key Performance Indicators (Indikator Kinerja Utama or IKU) and LLDIKTI Toward Impactful and Integrity-Driven Education”, the forum served as a strategic platform to discuss the future of higher education management, digital transformation, environmental responsibility, and institutional performance improvement.
The meeting featured various prominent figures in Indonesian higher education, including Prof. Dr. Mukhamad Najib, who is also recognized as a strategic partner of UI GreenMetric in advancing sustainability transformation across Indonesian universities.
As part of the event agenda, UI GreenMetric was specially invited to deliver a sustainability socialization session presented directly by Dr. Vishnu Juwono. During the session held on Thursday, 21 May 2026, Dr. Vishnu introduced UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings (UIGM SUR) as a global sustainability platform initiated by Universitas Indonesia in 2010.
In his presentation, Dr. Vishnu highlighted the rapid growth of UI GreenMetric into a global network that encourages universities to implement measurable and evidence-based sustainability policies. Over the past 16 years, UI GreenMetric has developed into one of the world’s leading sustainability frameworks for higher education, engaging thousands of universities worldwide while continuously expanding its sustainability assessment initiatives for cities, regencies, and corporations in Indonesia.
He emphasized that UI GreenMetric functions not only as a ranking system, but also as a self-assessment and benchmarking tool that enables higher education institutions to systematically evaluate their sustainability performance. Through a rigorous and measurable methodology, UI GreenMetric supports universities in building long-term sustainability roadmaps and integrating sustainable development into institutional governance.
Through its 2026 methodology, UI GreenMetric assesses universities based on seven major categories: Setting and Infrastructure, Energy and Climate Change, Waste, Water, Transportation, Education and Research, as well as Governance and Digitalization. These indicators are designed to support universities in integrating sustainability principles into institutional governance and strategic planning.
The session also showcased the remarkable global expansion of UI GreenMetric participation. In 2025, UI GreenMetric involved 1,745 universities from 105 countries worldwide. In Indonesia alone, 196 universities from 27 provinces actively participated in the UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings 2025, reflecting the growing national commitment toward sustainability in higher education.
Dr. Vishnu further stressed that sustainability should be viewed as an integral part of institutional transformation. UI GreenMetric encourages universities to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into all aspects of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, including education, research, community engagement, and institutional governance. This approach is considered essential not only for strengthening global reputation, but also for creating tangible impacts on society and the environment.
Beyond its ranking framework, UI GreenMetric also introduced several sustainability support services designed to help universities build more integrated sustainability strategies. These services include sustainability consultation, ranking mapping, SDGs reporting development, and global visibility enhancement initiatives.
UI GreenMetric’s participation in the LLDIKTI Region VIII Regional Working Meeting reflects the growing commitment of Indonesian higher education institutions toward sustainability and governance transformation. Through this forum, it is expected that more private universities, particularly within Region VIII, will be encouraged to adopt sustainability-oriented policies and practices as part of their long-term institutional strategies for a more resilient and impactful future.
