Universitas Teuku Umar Strengthens Sustainable Campus Performance Through Strategic UI GreenMetric Workshop
30 September 2026
MEULABOH, ACEH BARAT, INDONESIA – Universitas Teuku Umar (UTU) is strengthening its commitment to sustainable campus development through a strategic workshop focused on improving its performance in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings.
Held on 30 September 2026 at the Iskandar Muda Hall, Universitas Teuku Umar, the workshop carried the theme “Strengthening UTU’s Sustainable Campus Performance and International GreenMetric Ranking through Strategic Improvement, Research, and Collaboration.” The event was organized by UTU in collaboration with UI GreenMetric Universitas Indonesia and was held in a hybrid format.
The workshop brought together UTU leaders, the university’s UI GreenMetric team, relevant institutional units, campus facilities and environmental managers, and other members of the university community involved in sustainability indicators.
The workshop gave participants an opportunity to better understand how UI GreenMetric works and how UTU can strengthen its performance. The sessions focused on key performance indicators, improvement strategies, evidence requirements, and priority areas that UTU can develop based on its own campus conditions.
One of the main topics was Tree Ranking and green campus landscape performance. Participants discussed ways to strengthen the university’s green spaces and landscape management while learning from good practices and benchmarking experiences from UI GreenMetric Universitas Indonesia.
The program opened with remarks from the Universitas Teuku Umar Rector, followed by a welcome address from the Head of UI GreenMetric Universitas Indonesia. The main sessions then explored UI GreenMetric Rankings, Key Performance Indicators, and strategies to improve UTU’s ranking, followed by a session on Tree Ranking, Green Campus Landscape Performance, Best Practices, and Benchmarking from UI.
The workshop also moved beyond presentations. UTU and UI GreenMetric held a group discussion to identify concrete targets, indicators, and evidence that UTU can use for its next steps. The discussion was intended to help the university develop an initial action plan that can be followed by the UTU UI GreenMetric team.
For UTU, the workshop is part of a broader effort to improve how the university manages its environment, education, research, and institutional governance. The university sees sustainability not only as a ranking-related effort, but also as part of its commitment to developing a more sustainable campus.
The collaboration with UI GreenMetric will continue beyond the workshop. UTU and UI GreenMetric plan to strengthen knowledge sharing, exchange good practices, discuss sustainability strategies, benchmark campus practices, and explore follow-up collaboration to support the implementation of UTU’s action plan.
Through this initiative, Universitas Teuku Umar is taking practical steps to strengthen its sustainable campus performance. By bringing together university leadership, sustainability teams, and UI GreenMetric experts, the workshop creates space for UTU to turn its sustainability goals into clear targets and actions.
