UI GreenMetric and Universitas Esa Unggul Promote Sustainable Food Systems Through ESA Green Food Fest 2026
JAKARTA, 30 July 2026 – Universitas Esa Unggul (UEU), in collaboration with UI GreenMetric, held ESA Green Food Fest 2026 on 30 July under the theme “Transformasi Sistem Pangan Berkelanjutan: Inovasi Pangan Lokal Berbasis Zero-Waste untuk Mengatasi Wasting.” Held in a hybrid format, the event combined a Food Waste Management live cooking competition with a national seminar focusing on sustainable food systems, local food innovation, and green campus initiatives.
Representing the Rector of Universitas Esa Unggul, Vice Rector for Internationalization and Cooperation Ir. Yudi Samyudia, Ph.D., emphasized the importance of integrating sustainability into higher education. He highlighted food waste and food security as global challenges that require active involvement from universities, including through local food innovation and more efficient consumption practices on campus.
Chairperson of UI GreenMetric, Dr. Vishnu Juwono, S.E., M.I.A., highlighted the environmental impact of food loss and food waste, noting that food waste contributes around 8 to 10 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, according to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). He also encouraged greater use of Indonesia’s diverse local food resources, including sago, sorghum, maize, and tubers, as part of efforts to build more sustainable and climate-adaptive food systems.
The national seminar featured four presentations exploring key dimensions of sustainable food systems: Local Food-Based Nutrition by Dr. Prita Dhyani Swamilaksita, S.P., M.Si.; Green Campus Strategies by Dr. Abellia Anggi Wardani, S.Hum., M.A.; Sustainable Food Innovation by Dr. Roza Yusfiandayani, S.Pi.; and Green Campus Collaboration by Dr. Fitry Filianty, S.TP., M.Si. In her session, Dr. Abellia highlighted the role of green campus networks in sharing knowledge and best practices, while encouraging universities to translate UI GreenMetric indicators, particularly in waste management and environmental education, into concrete campus actions.
Through ESA Green Food Fest 2026, Universitas Esa Unggul and UI GreenMetric highlighted how universities can turn sustainability from a shared commitment into practical action. By combining food waste management, local food innovation, sustainability education, and green campus collaboration, the event demonstrated how academic facilities, knowledge, and campus communities can work together to address environmental challenges and encourage more sustainable practices. It also showed that meaningful green transformation can begin with practical initiatives within the campus environment and grow through collaboration, knowledge exchange, and collective action.
