UIN Raden Fatah Palembang Advances Green Campus Commitment Through GCC 2026
PALEMBANG, INDONESIA, 1 Oct 2026 – Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Raden Fatah Palembang is strengthening its commitment to sustainable campus development through the Green Campus Competition (GCC) 2026. The university held a socialisation session on 1 October 2026 at the Auditorium on the fourth floor of its Administrative Centre Building at the Jakabaring Campus, bringing together representatives from faculties and university work units.
The session introduced the competition’s eight assessment criteria and outlined how each faculty and work unit can incorporate sustainability into its programmes and daily operations. The initiative aims to build a shared understanding of green campus practices and encourage stronger environmental responsibility across the university community.
The eight GCC 2026 criteria cover environmental management, energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, green infrastructure, education and research, sustainability governance, and green innovation and campaigns. Together, these areas provide a framework for the university to assess existing practices, identify areas for improvement, and develop more coordinated sustainability initiatives.
The competition also highlights that building a green campus requires more than improving physical infrastructure. Efficient resource use, environmental education, research, institutional policies and active participation from students, lecturers and staff are equally important in making sustainability part of everyday campus life.
Through GCC 2026, UIN Raden Fatah Palembang hopes to turn greater awareness into practical action. By encouraging collaboration across faculties and work units, the university aims to develop environmental programmes that are consistent, measurable and relevant to its campus needs.
The initiative reflects UIN Raden Fatah Palembang’s broader ambition to create a healthier, greener and more environmentally resilient learning environment. It also demonstrates how universities can strengthen sustainability by combining institutional commitment with the involvement of their academic communities.
By bringing sustainability into campus management, education and research, UIN Raden Fatah Palembang is taking further steps towards a more sustainable future. The Green Campus Competition provides a platform for the university community to share responsibility, develop innovative solutions and make environmental stewardship a lasting part of campus culture.
